How fast can I get my forklift licence in Brisbane?

The forklift licence course at FMS Training in Lawnton, north Brisbane, takes two days: one training day, then a separate test day, both booked when you pay. It is $499 on weekdays and $599 on weekends, and your first re-sit is free. After you pass, you apply to WorkSafe Queensland for the licence itself.

How soon you can start depends on which dates still have seats. Weekday classes run most weeks (Monday training with a Tuesday test, or Wednesday or Thursday training with a Friday test), and weekend classes train on Saturday with the test on Sunday. The booking box on the forklift licence course in Brisbane page shows the next dates and how many seats are left.

Is it a two-day course for complete beginners?

Yes. No forklift experience is needed. Before the course you watch pre-course video guides, filmed in our own training facility with our own forklifts and instructors, so there is no classroom time on the day and most of the training day is spent driving, with excellent student to forklift ratios. Because the test is on a separate day, you go home, rest, and come back fresh.

What happens after the test day?

You apply online to WorkSafe Queensland within 60 days of passing your practical assessment, and pay WorkSafe’s licence fee ($113.41) directly to WorkSafe. Keep your Candidate Assessment Summary and your proof of payment: WorkSafe Queensland says these are your evidence that you can lawfully do the work while your application is decided. Your licence card is posted to you once the application is approved.

Common questions

Can I get my forklift licence in one day?
The training is one day and the test is on a separate day, so the course takes two days. The licence is then issued by WorkSafe Queensland after you apply online.

What if I’m not ready on test day?
Tell your trainer. We can arrange extra practice before your test, and your first re-sit is free if you don’t pass.

I’ve driven forklifts at work but never had a licence. Is there a shorter course?
No. Driving without a licence can’t be recognised as prior learning, so you do the same two-day course. Training is competency based: if you are safe and competent, you won’t be kept longer than you need on the training day.

Can my employer book and pay?
Yes. Companies can book online or ask for an invoice on 1300 699 150.
