Is a one-day forklift course enough? Yes, for most people, when the licence test is on a separate day. At FMS Training in Lawnton the forklift licence course is $499 weekday or $599 weekend: one full hands-on training day, then your licence test on a separate day, both booked when you pay, and your first re-sit is free. The WorkSafe Queensland licence fee is paid separately to WorkSafe.

It depends on the structure. A forklift licence genuinely can’t be safely trained and assessed back-to-back in a single rushed session — but it also doesn’t need to take multiple days of classroom time.
At FMS Training, we split the process for exactly this reason:
- Day 1: A full day of hands-on forklift training starting 7:30am, with about 5 hours of driving. You watch our pre-course video guides (filmed in our own facility, on our own forklifts) before the day, so there’s no PowerPoint or classroom time.
- Assessment day (separate): A focused, approximately 2-hour licence assessment once you’ve had time to consolidate your training.
This gives you a genuine one-day training block, practical with no classroom time on the day, without the risk of being assessed the moment you’ve finished learning.
FMS Training has a 4.9-star Google rating, won Outstanding Education Service at the Moreton Bay Local Business Awards 2025 and 2026, and is a Nationally Recognised RTO (45189). Book your forklift licence course: $499 weekday or $599 weekend, first re-sit free.
Common questions
Is a one-day forklift course enough to get my licence?
For most people, yes, as long as the test is on a separate day. You get a full training day on the forklift, then come back for the licence test. Training is competency based, so if you’re safe and competent you’re not kept longer than you need.
How much is a one-day forklift course in Brisbane?
At FMS Training in Lawnton it’s $499 weekday or $599 weekend. That covers the training day and the separate test day, both booked when you pay, and your first re-sit is free. The WorkSafe Queensland licence fee is paid separately to WorkSafe.
How much driving do I get on the training day?
About 5 hours on the forklift. The theory is done beforehand with our video guides, so the day is spent on the machine, not in a classroom.
Why is the licence test on a separate day?
So you’re tested fresh, after the training has sunk in, not straight after a long day of learning. The test day starts at 6:30am.
What if I don’t pass the test?
Your first re-sit is free. Your trainer tells you what to work on and books you into another test.
